What E3 means on a Bosch
The board commanded a fan speed but the feedback from the indoor blower motor did not match, or no feedback came back at all. The blower is either stalled, failing, or not reporting.
On this platform, E3 is a fault: something has failed or is disconnected and needs diagnosis.
Common causes
- Something is jamming the blower wheel (debris, a broken louver, a bent housing).
- The blower wheel is caked with dirt and too heavy to reach speed.
- The DC fan motor is failing or its feedback wire is loose or damaged.
- The motor drive circuit on the indoor board has failed.
How to fix it yourself
Work through the checks below first; they resolve most cases. If they do not, the repair itself may need a technician.
- Reset the system: switch the breaker (or the outdoor disconnect) off, wait a full five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then switch it back on and restart from the remote.
- With power off, open the front panel, remove the filters and spin the blower wheel by hand. It should turn freely and silently.
- Clear anything caught in the wheel and clean heavy dirt off the blades (a build-up throws the wheel out of balance and overloads the motor).
- Reseat the fan motor connector on the indoor board.
