Common causes

• Ice, snow, leaves or debris blocking the fan.
• A failed motor.
• A loose fan connector.
• A failed fan drive on the board.

How to fix it yourself

Work through the checks below first; they resolve most cases. If they do not, the repair itself may need a technician.

1. Reset the system: switch the breaker (or the outdoor disconnect) off, wait a full five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then switch it back on and restart from the remote.
2. Look at the outdoor unit: clear leaves, cottonwood fluff, snow or ice from the coil and make sure the fan can spin freely and nothing is stacked against the cabinet.
3. With power off, spin the fan by hand; it should turn freely.
4. Reseat the fan motor connector.

Switch off power at the breaker before opening either unit. Capacitors in the outdoor unit hold a charge for several minutes after power is cut.

Fan motor replacement if it spins freely but the code persists.

Which Bosch units show E8

This page applies to Bosch Climate 5000 and Climate 5000 Multi units on the multi-zone outdoor unit display. Bosch's own documentation lists E8 as "Outdoor fan speed fault (outdoor display)", the same definition used across the Midea multi-zone outdoor unit display it is built on. If your unit shows a code with a different shape (for example a four-character code, or a plain number), it is from a different table; use the lookup with your exact code.

Where Bosch shows this code

multi-zone outdoor unit display: These codes appear on the small LED display on the multi-zone OUTDOOR unit's control board (behind the service panel, or visible through a window on some models). The indoor units show their own, different codes for the same fault, so check which display you are reading. On the outdoor display, E codes are outdoor faults, F codes identify which zone's coil sensor failed (F1 = zone A, F2 = zone B, and so on), and P codes are protections.
