Klimaire mini split error code EC

Common causes

• A flare connection on the line set is leaking (under-torqued, over-torqued, or a scored flare face).
• The outdoor service valves were not fully opened after installation, or a valve cap is loose.
• A pre-charged quick-connect coupling was not fully seated or was cross-threaded.
• A genuine leak in the coil or piping on an older system.
• A false trigger: a badly dirty filter or coil, or the coil sensor (T2) reading high.

How to fix it yourself

Work through the checks below first; they resolve most cases. If they do not, the repair itself may need a technician.

1. Reset the system: switch the breaker (or the outdoor disconnect) off, wait a full five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then switch it back on and restart from the remote.
2. Confirm both outdoor service valves (the small hex valves under the caps) are fully open, counterclockwise until they stop.
3. Check the filters and coil first, because a starved coil can fake this code.
4. Leak-check every flare joint with soapy water or a leak detector while the system runs. A stream of tiny bubbles is a leak. Re-torque a leaking flare to spec; do not just crank on it.
5. On pre-charged quick-connect systems, verify the couplings are threaded on fully and the seal was pierced.
6. Anything inside the refrigerant circuit (sensors are fine, but valves, compressors and leaks are not) needs EPA-certified refrigerant handling. That is a technician job.

Switch off power at the breaker before opening either unit. Capacitors in the outdoor unit hold a charge for several minutes after power is cut.

When to call a technician

If a joint will not seal, or you cannot find the leak, a technician must recover the charge, repair, pull a vacuum and recharge by weight. Repeated EC codes on an older unit mean a slow leak that will only get worse.

Which Klimaire units show EC

This page applies to Klimaire KSIV / KSIE / KSIO single-zone, KSIM / KMIR multi-zone and KSID / KDIP ducted units on the indoor unit display (classic two-character codes). Klimaire's own documentation lists EC as "Refrigerant leak detected (low refrigerant charge)", the same definition used across the Midea platform (classic codes) it is built on. If your unit shows a code with a different shape (for example a four-character code, or a plain number), it is from a different table; use the lookup with your exact code.

Where Klimaire shows this code

indoor unit display (classic two-character codes): The code appears on the indoor unit's LED display in place of the set temperature. Some models also blink the indicator lamps in a pattern that matches the code. E codes are faults in the indoor unit or its communication link, F codes are faults on the outdoor side, and P codes are protections: the outdoor unit has stopped itself to prevent damage. EC is the refrigerant leak check.
