Concord mini split error code E3

Common causes

• Something is jamming the blower wheel (debris, a broken louver, a bent housing).
• The blower wheel is caked with dirt and too heavy to reach speed.
• The DC fan motor is failing or its feedback wire is loose or damaged.
• The motor drive circuit on the indoor board has failed.

How to fix it yourself

Work through the checks below first; they resolve most cases. If they do not, the repair itself may need a technician.

1. Reset the system: switch the breaker (or the outdoor disconnect) off, wait a full five minutes so the boards fully discharge, then switch it back on and restart from the remote.
2. With power off, open the front panel, remove the filters and spin the blower wheel by hand. It should turn freely and silently.
3. Clear anything caught in the wheel and clean heavy dirt off the blades (a build-up throws the wheel out of balance and overloads the motor).
4. Reseat the fan motor connector on the indoor board.
5. Restart. If the fan hums but does not spin, or spins briefly and stops, the motor is the likely fault.

Switch off power at the breaker before opening either unit. Capacitors in the outdoor unit hold a charge for several minutes after power is cut.

When to call a technician

Indoor fan motors are a moderate DIY replacement on most wall units. Call a technician if the motor spins freely and the connector is sound but the code persists; that points to the board.

This page applies to Concord 4DHV outdoor with DWH wall-mount indoor (2016 and later) units. Concord's own documentation lists E3 as "Indoor fan speed out of control (indoor fan motor fault)", the same definition used across the Midea platform (classic codes) it is built on. If your unit shows a code with a different shape (for example a four-character code, or a plain number), it is from a different table; use the lookup with your exact code.

Where Concord shows this code

The code appears on the indoor unit's LED display in place of the set temperature. Some models also blink the indicator lamps in a pattern that matches the code. E codes are faults in the indoor unit or its communication link, F codes are faults on the outdoor side, and P codes are protections: the outdoor unit has stopped itself to prevent damage. EC is the refrigerant leak check.
