What Fj means on a American Standard
The outdoor unit is deliberately slowing the compressor to keep discharge temperature within limits. Output drops but the system keeps running. This is a warning about operating conditions, not a failure.
On this platform, Fj is a protection: the system stopped or throttled itself to prevent damage; many clear on their own once conditions return to normal.

Switch off power at the breaker before opening either unit. Capacitors in the outdoor unit hold a charge for several minutes after power is cut.
